In the twenty-nine years since I became involved with complementary therapies, there has never been a day when I have failed to be fascinated by how the body works. I hope to never lose that fascination.
I’m a Buteyko Breathing Educator and massage therapist. My aim is to find and provide the best natural therapy solution for you. I work closely with experienced colleagues across a wide range of therapies. So, whether through better breathing or by referral to another practitioner, your care and positive outcome is paramount. In 1992, I co-founded my first company. Through this we pioneered taking complementary therapies to the exhibition, conference and incentive industry, throughout the UK. We also pioneered working with health visitors and midwives, making baby massage a standard part of post-natal follow up groups. We did this through 20 NHS health clinics, over a 15-year period. From 1993, I taught anatomy and physiology, several types of massage and business studies at a renowned college in Surrey, UK for over sixteen years. Raworth, was the first specialist college for Nutrition, Sports Therapy and complementary therapies in the UK. We had working arrangements with Guildford College and the military rehab centre at Headley Court. I was course co-ordinator and acting vice-principal, writing in-house exams, and liaising with external accreditation bodies. During this time, I worked to help a couple of start-up training schools. For one of them, I set up a training wing at the Royal National Institute for the Blind, at their UK headquarters in Surrey. In 2006, a colleague and I founded Inspire Massage Workshops. A company specialising in the highest quality professional development courses for therapists, with guest tutor workshops from some of the UK’s best-known bodywork specialists. Again, I travelled throughout the UK and abroad, training college teachers and teaching therapists in spas and in 2009 led our first study trip to Thailand. I also presented annually at Cam Expo, then the UK’s premier therapy show and the Vitality Show. We were area coordinators for the UK’s biggest course accreditation body, running regular workshops. Inspire’s exam results were consistently, the highest in the UK, attained by students of ITEC. I have written and run a variety of courses and workshops on subjects like posture and work-related stress for some blue chip companies such as British Airways and BT and also adult learning centres such as Steiner Training, Guildford College and the YMCA. Over the years I have worked with a range of start-up companies in the complementary therapy field and seeing therapists starting out and making their first success is a continuing interest for me. It was a pleasure to see and work alongside my friends at Wellness London, as they took their skills into City firms in London. I still mentor some therapists, in their practices and training. In 2010, I sold my share of Inspire and joined two clinics. One with a group of osteopaths in SW London and the other at the famous Wentworth Golf Club, home of the European PGA. I treated clients privately there, until moving to Toronto in 2018. I joined the Buteyko Breathing Educators Association in 2014. I joined the board in 2018, and took on the presidency at our conference in Toronto in 2019. That last bit was bleedin mistake, but too late now! |
